On 2nd March, MOSES partners participated in a lunch time conference at the DG MARE offices in Brussels, followed by a technical meeting. Co-organized by Ángel Calvo (DG MARE), this lunchtime conference brought together experts from the different maritime units at DG MARE, DG Environment, and the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. Partners had the opportunity to present the ongoing work and results of MOSES so far.
Régis Kalaydjian explained how the database developed under WP4 can help the monitoring of the Atlantic Action Plan, while Arantza Murillas presented the methodology for an index of the pressures from the marine economic activity in the Atlantic Area, which led to lively discussions. WP6 results, on the identification and assessment of the vulnerability of the coastal area were introduced by Raúl Prezello, and Stephen Hynes presented alternative approaches to measuring the economic contribution of marine and coastal tourism.
The presentations were followed by a technical meeting where the EU representatives asked more specific questions on the methodologies that are being used and gave indications on how MOSES results can be valuable from the policy makers perspective.
Overall, this was a very intense and fruitful day for MOSES, strengthening the opportunity for further direct interaction at the EU level.
